Proof & Tralle Alcoholmeter Hydrometer with Hard Pack Case (0-100%)
A must have tool for distillers parrots or in measuring cylinders. Know exactly what percentage of alcohol your distillate is coming out at.
This hydrometer provides 2 scales of measurement which are Proof (the US International Revenue Scale for proof of spirits) and Tralles (the actual percentage of alcohol). It is calibrated to give accurate readings at 60°F (15.6°C) and includes a chart that provides the adjustments needed when using it at different temperatures.
The 0-100% Alcoholmeter is a specialized glass instrument designed to measure the alcohol by volume (ABV) in high-proof, distilled spirits like vodka, whiskey, or moonshine. It determines alcohol content by measuring the specific gravity (density) of the mixture, with 0% representing pure water and 100% indicating pure alcohol.
Key Features and Details:
- Range: 0–100% alcohol by volume (ABV).
- Usage: It is designed specifically for "pure" alcohol-water mixtures and does not work accurately for liquids containing sugar or other ingredients, such as liqueurs or wine.
- Usage Tip: To take a reading, place the instrument in a tall, clear glass cylinder filled with the sample, ensuring it floats freely without touching the sides.
Difference from Brewing Hydrometers:
Unlike a standard brewing hydrometer, which is used for beer and wine to measure sugar concentration, the alcoholmeter is specifically for measuring the final strength of distilled spirits.
