In German, “-er” means something or someone from. So Placenamer means something or someone from Placename. Pilsner malt is malt from Pilsn, or more accurately malt made in the style of the malt from Pilsn.
All of these are synonyms:
- Pils
- Pilsn
- Pilsen
- Pilsner
- Pilsener
But, if you are trying to re-create a specific recipe then pay attention to the grain specified in the recipe. The flavor profile is grains can differ based on where it’s grown and how it’s malted.
