BUILD YOUR OWN EXTRACT SMASH BEER
BEER BREWING INGREDIENT KIT by MY BREW SUPPLY

3 Steps to Build Your Own SMASH Beer Kit:

To build your own SMASH (Single Malt And Single Hop) beer kit, you need to pick your 3 ingredients (Malt, Hops and Yeast):

  1. Pick your Single Malt.
    1. Choose 1 of the 6 Dry Malt Extracts (DME) that are available (Amber, Bavarian Wheat, Dark, Golden Light, Pale or Pilsen). The different types of DME (when making 5 gallons of beer) will change the color and flavor of the beer. For example, Amber DME (at the lower end of 3 lbs) will produce a Deep Gold colored beer and (at the high end of 7 lbs) will product a Deep Amber colored beer, Bavarian Wheat DME ranges from Pale Straw to Deep Gold, Dark DME ranges from Pale Amber to Deep Amber, Golden Light DME ranges from Pale Straw to Pale Gold, Pale DME ranges from Pale Straw to Pale Gold, Pilsen DME ranges from Pale Straw to Straw.
    2. Next pick the amount of DME you want. The amount of DME chosen will affect the potential ABV%. For example, 3 pounds of DME should produce about 2.8% ABV, 4 pounds about 3.7% ABV, 5 pounds about 4.6% ABV, 6 pounds about 5.5% ABV and 7 pounds about 6.4% ABV.
  2. Pick your Single Hop.
    1. For Aroma. Hops will affect the aroma of your beer. The later in the boil they are added, the more aroma. Choose from Cascade (Pleasant, flowery, spicy, and citrusy. Can have a grapefruit flavor), Centennial (Medium with floral and citrus tones), Citra (Intense citrusy flavor), Chinook (Mild to medium-heavy, spicy, piney, and grapefruity), Columbus (Pleasant, with pungent aroma), German Hallertau (Mild and pleasant) or Mosaic (Complex and pronounced. Strong impressions of citrus oil, balsam pine, blueberry, peach and tropical fruit. Notable mango character, but also shades of lime and mandarin orange.).
    2. For Bitterness. Hops will affect the Bitterness of your beer. The longer they are in the boil the more they will bitter your beer. Just know, adding a high bitterness hop at flame out will not add any bitterness to the beer. Choose from Cascade (Low Bitterness), Centennial (Medium Bitterness), Citra (High Bitterness), Chinook (High Bitterness), Columbus (Highest Bitterness), German Hallertau (Low Bitterness) or Mosaic (High Bitterness).
  3. Pick you Yeast.
    1. Yeast can determine the style of your beer. Choose from Nottingham (High performance ale yeast), K-97 (German style ale yeast), S-04 (English style ale yeast), US-05 (American style ale yeast) or WB-06 (Specialty yeast for wheat beers).
